Expanding the Team

by Jonathan Blaustein

This is a hard one to write.

I’ve had it on my mind for weeks, but it’s been a difficult approach.

No matter how much I’ve shared about my personal life in blogs over the years, (A LOT,) you reach a point when oversharing seems the bigger worry.

(I’m thinking of a certain medical patient I recently spent time with, who insisted on using the word genitals, making everyone uncomfortable, when it could easily have been avoided.)

But in order to set up a blog post from a new writer, and also tie a knot on the story I wrote about taking Theo to college, there is something I need to put out there.

Theo got sick when he first arrived at school, (no more details necessary,) and I needed to go to Houston to help him get medical care, and then arrange for his leave of absence from this semester.

His recovery is going super-well, thankfully, and he’s hoping to be back at college in January.

Right now, managing his recovery has become my main focus, and after a couple of weeks of down time, he’s switched over to high gear: lots of adventure, travel, exercise, making art, writing, eating great food.

It’s the gap semester lifestyle, for sure, but also a medical necessity.

(Killing two birds with one stone.)

Needless to say, as he’s a great writer, joining Sunshine and Olly as a contributor seemed like a pretty obvious move for Theo.

We just spent most of a week together in Boulder, staying with family, and we hiked, ate, played ball, went for walks, had meaningful talks.

(A lot of father/son bonding.)

And we discussed what type of content Theo might like to write for Sunshine and Olly.

Restaurant reviews, movie recaps; some fun, culture concepts for sure.

Tomorrow, we’ll be featuring Theo’s first post.

Hope you like it, and as always, thanks for reading along.
